      * Drop Import Claris RTF *
      ****************************************

Droplets for converting rtf files generated by Claris RTF filter into Cocoa friendly rtf. Special fonts will be substituted automatically by appropriate fonts.

Error messages will be displayed in Console.app

If you have not installed Claris RTF filter, put the one coming with this package in

	Your_OS9_Volumes/System Folder/Claris/Claris Translators

For Greek Polytonic fonts and transliteration fonts, the following fonts will be used as substitute Unicode fonts by default. So if you have not installed them, make sure to install them before trying the droplets:

Gentium <http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&item_id=Gentium_download>

TimesTL <http://quinon.com/files/encoding/TimesTL.sit>

		<<<<< How to use >>>>>

1. Export documents from MacOS Classic application, e.g. Nisus Writer Classic with Claris RTF filter as filenama.rtf (".rtf" is mandatory.)

2. Open rtf files with one of the droplets. You can drop them on it or open them from the droplet's Open dialog box. If you are using RBrowserLite or other Cocoa file browser, you can use also Services.

3. filename_conv.rtf or filename_conv<num>.rtf will be created in the same folder and opened by an application. TextEdit for DropImportClarisRTF.app, Jedit X for DropImportClarisRTF_JeditX.app and Nisus Writer Express for DropImportClarisRTF_NWE.app.

4. Save the output file from an application of your choice. This is necessary for optimising rtf codes.

		<<<<< Some explanation >>>>>

Those three droplet applications differ from each other by only a single line near the end of the script (DropImportClarisRTF.app/Contents/Resources/script) contained in them:

#	`open -a "Jedit X" "$outfile"`;
	`open -a "TextEdit" "$outfile"`;
#	`open -a "Nisus Writer Express" "$outfile"`;

which defines what application will open output rtf file. In the example above, it's TextEdit because commands calling the other applications are commented out by #. Naturally you can edit it so that another application supporting cocoartf will open the output file.

With application NOT supporting footnotes/endnotes, you have to convert them into text, for example, with Note2Body macro included in this package before exporting your document as rtf.

		<<<<< Supported fonts >>>>>

In addition to OS 9 Language Kits fonts, the following fonts are supported:

- Arabic/Persian fonts coming with the retail package of Arabic Language Kit.

- Old MacGreek fonts GrCourier, GrHelvetica and GrTimes, included in GR-7.0.1.1-Fonts.image.sea.

- Greek Polytonic fonts: Athenian, Bosporos-Greekkeys, Bosporos-Greekkeys-Thin, Bosporos-Salamis, Bosporos-Salamis+, Bosporos-Salamis+-Thin, Bosporos-Salamis-Thin, Bosporos-Sparta+, Bosporos-Sparta+-Thin, Bosporos-Sparta-Thin, Kadmos-Sal, Kadmos-Sal+, Kadmos-Sp, Kadmos-Sp+.

- Japanese fonts coming with Localised MacOS 7.5-8.5.

- Jaghbub family, TimesEncycBrill, TranslitLS, TranslitLSAKK, NewBaskervilleME, M-EastTimes, MidEastTimes, OrientalTimes, TimesTL, Samarqand, CharlieV3.

- Regardless of font, html entities '&#xhhhh;' will be converted into rtf code '\uc0\udddd '.

		<<<<< Limitations with specific font >>>>>

- With Greek Polytonic fonts, combining characters preceding base character (\x2A, \xAD except in Athenian) may not be converted correctly.

- With Jagbub family fonts, combining characters preceding base character are not converted correctly. You'll have to move them after base character using CombCharJaghbub macro before exporting your file as rtf.

- With with TimesEncycBrill, non-Unicode characters will be assigned to Private Use Area. To display them correctly, you need to have installed TimesTL font.

- With TimesEncycBrillRomanSC, small capital letters will be replaced with lower case letters.
